You know I’d tell you everything, all it is to know, how blogging makes you feel but even as I am only five years into the something, I am not sure I can do that to the very best yet. Maybe those 3000 light years into the journey can do justice to that.

However, I can tell you a few stuff about those things lol. Read that again 👆?

Anyways if starting a blog has been on your mind for a while now, uhm.. you have something you’re passionate about and want to share it with the world, you want to make some side money or even turn it into a full-fledged business.

or you just want to have fun and learn in the process…

This post is for you regardless, especially if you’re a Nigerian as I have a sweet offer for you at the end. But fest (First) here are a few reasons why you should put more thoughts into starting a blog in Nigeria today.

Let’s get started.

1. Keep Track of Yourself

start a blog in nigeria

Lol, who’d need a blog to keep track of themselves? Someone like me.

Let me remind you that a blog is just like your diary or journal. You write on it the but the only difference is that it’s online and public, anybody can read it but is that not the goal anyway?

If you’ve read my post on how bloggers make money online you’ll recognize that the more people read your blog… The richer you’re likely to be and feel even more accomplished.

So people can know that you’re properly functioning as a human being and you do have good stuff up there in your head and sane enough to document them down in fact in addition savvy enough to add them to a blog.

Yikes 😂🤓 One of the main reasons I started this blog is to do just that. Keep track of myself. Put everything I’m learning into writing and eventually into practice. I’d put them into the paper but it won’t be as fun as blogging plus you won’t be here trying to learn about the things I know cause they’d be inside a hard copy in my room.

I’ll put it this way. Starting and running a blog is simply one of the most effective ways of impacting yours and other people’s life 😋😊

Shikena! let’s move on to the other reasons why you may want to consider running a blog in Nigeria 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬

2. Learn More About a Topic

I’m sorry if these points sound boring to you but it depends on how you see them anyway.

If you’re quite knowledgeable about a particular topic, let’s say Cars, for example, starting a blog and writing often about cars may just cause for more research since you have to put more articles out thereby improving your knowledge on that topic.

This is a win-win situation for you and your readers. You get to learn more during your research about Cars and they get to learn from you which takes us to our next point.

3. Position Yourself as the Expert

start a blog in nigeria position yourself as the expert

I bet you already consider me as an expert already since I am talking about these things with you. Lol but I wouldn’t call myself an expert just yet as we are all still learning, refer to point number one…

Even after five years of being into the rodeo I still feel there’s a lot to learn and a time will come when I can comfortably accept the title “Expert“.

Maybe in 5007 light years from now 😂😁 But even five years is a long time and during that time I have consumed so much that even I am scared of the things I know and the thing is I could teach them to you under five months.

In other words, what am I saying?

The more time you spend blogging about a particular topic, the more you’re seen as the expert… the more you become an expert, the go-to person in that field..

When you think Entertainment and gossip in Nigeria, your mind goes to Linda Ikeji right? And for wedding inspiration and reasonable news lol, we think BellaNaija.com right? That’s kinda how it’s gonna be for you should you do things right.

4. There Aren’t Many Authority Blogs In Nigeria Yet

And there’s still a chance for you to capitalize on that fast before the place gets over-runned. In my own opinion anyway.

There’s more to talk about than entertainment and tech which is the order of the day in this our country.

There are food and recipes, health and fitness, DIY and crafts which includes hair and makeup, tons of other niches that are not being explored yet and you can use that to your advantage.

I bet with you a lot of people are searching, waiting for you to start writing, sharing what you know with them but because you want to go in with the intention of the last point, you miss it all by getting yourself into a super competitive niche and you begin gasping for attention.

What I’m saying is in a country like Nigeria it is too easy for now to start a blog and become an authority in your blog niche. Authority means more traffic, more money, and more fame. Watch me do it in less than a year or two 😂😂😂

5. Make Some Money

I bet this is the point you have been waiting to read about and no I won’t say I saved the best for the last cause if this is your drive for starting a blog then you, my friend has played the penalty to throwing lol but you get the point sha 😂💸

make some extra money blogging

Not that making money isn’t possible, It very well is. I am making steady 5-6 figures in Naira every month from my blogs and there are others who are doing the same or even better.

I know and have friends whose takeaway each month is nothing less than 200K every month for just sitting at home writing the articles you call tutorials ranging from phone tips to health and fitness.

Cool right?

I just wanted to make sure you’re going into this journey with the right mindset in other not to go and disappoint yourself cause you can blog for years and not make a single cent, I’ve been there. But you can’t go wrong if you have someone with you, someone who’s already in business, that’s what I am here for.

Anyways I am running a series this month on how bloggers make money online, you’ll find loads of useful information there for beginners and you can also get in touch with me if you have any questions 😘😜

In Conclusion

And with all that said, we have come to the end of this article.

But for the life of me I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t start a blog if you have or can get yourself:

  • A laptop
  • Internet connection
  • Knowledge about a particular topic
  • Know how to use a computer
  • Have a regular power supply
  • A shit load of extra money
  • And free time 🙂

Anyway so here’s what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna have aconversation. Would you like to blog?

If yes.. What’s stopping you? Already blogging? What challenges are you facing?

Let me know in the comment section below so we can tackle it together… I could even put up a full blog post for it 🙂

  1. Good evening sir. Thanks for sharing these awesome tips. I started blogging last year using blogger.com but I found out my top post had only 12 reads. It’s on a pause for now because blogging with my phone is hard. But how do I address the issue of my post getting to the right audience?

    • You just gotta write what will interest, attract them and go out there to look for them.

There are different places people hang out online these days, you’ll find people interested in your stuff on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the likes.

Just make sure to be intentional about what you’re doing.

      Thaanks for stopping by 🙂

  2. i honestly didnt intend reading this post but i wanted to know what you had to say, being a blogger myself. I agree that the most common niches in nigeria are gossip especially, tech, sport, news and so on, which is why I dont blog about any of those. And I can see that you monetized your blog with ads, I make money from my blog toi, just not with google ads as I dont really fancy them. But all the same, I think the fewer bloggers the better

    • Yeah, Okoto,

The fewer bloggers the better, however, the more bloggers with a healthy mindset to really help, influence would be much better. Your blog is down as I write this comment, I tried to view it. Please look into that.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Hello @imthatbabs and thanks for this post, it was quite helpful. However, I started a blog last year, it’s a personal blog, only with the intention of sharing my thoughts, opinions and experiences. I wasn’t really thinking about the money (which I now need 😂). I only wanted to fulfill my dream of writing though I don’t have so much writing experience. I actually need someone, a mentor or someone to critique my blog, telling me what it is I’m doing wrong and what I need to improve on.
    My website is ohsoulmemoirs.wordpress.com
    God bless 👌

    • Hey Courage,

Thanks for stopping by. Well at first glance I can see what could be limiting when it comes to making money with your blog. You’re on the hosted WordPress version which you don’t own hence your chances of ever making money are screwed all over as a result of the platform you blog on. I can understand you want to share your thoughts but going forward and making blogging a business you might have to spend some money to buy yourself your own server so you can be free to an extent.

You also need to learn some techniques and strategies which can be easily picked up on the internet but requires dedication.

I love the fact that your blog is neat and you write so well. A few changes and you could earn yourself some bucks the way I see it as I feel people will be interested in what you are talking about. I do hope you do come back here to see this lengthy reply I am writing though, it’s going to hurt to see it go all away if you didn’t see it.

Cheers and hope you’re having a good day 🙂

  4. Hey Babs nice post I really enjoyed it. I’ve just started blogging and I’m struggling with the technical side of it really. I know what content I want to share and have just posted a blog post you can read here about Self Guidance https://bit.ly/2SMVNjn
Maybe you could help with the technical process of how to make your blog profitable? Thanks! Rosa

    • Hey Rosa,

Good looking blog! However I did sight a few issues I’ll be addressing in the post I’m working on, do hang around though 🙂

      Thanks for your comment!
